Riverwalk on Roosevelt Island
Real estate development firm Hudson Companies, with partners The Related Companies, are currently working on a huge project to develop "new town" Riverwalk on Roosevelt island.
What is included?
A new Main Street, new ball fields and three of the planned nine buildings - consisting of 2,000 new units of housing - have already been completed. The project will also include a new central retail commons at the subway station and new recreational facilities for all of the island’s residents.
What challenges have been faced?
Hudson and Related have faced: conflicting government authority over infrastructure; rock excavation; construction over a subway tunnel; variable sub-surface conditions; the extension of utilities and an intensive community consultation process with the island’s very active residents. December 2008
