What We Do
Founded in 1937, Citizens Housing and Planning Council is a non-profit research organization dedicated to improving housing and neighborhood conditions through the co-operative efforts of the public and private sectors.
With new leadership in 2006, a renewed commitment of the board, and a generous gift from long-serving CHPC board member, William Ginsberg and his family, CHPC is embarking on a multitude of new initiatives to move the Council's work into the 21st Century. There is a new focus on promoting New York City's Best Practices, to ensure that our City remains at the forefront of international public policy initiatives. A brand new Fellowship program has been set up to train the next generation of housing and planning experts who are devoted to civic issues. We are continuously seeking new and inventive ways to best showcase CHPC's unique work, to keep up with fast-paced multimedia innovation.
And we continue to develop our fundamental, strategic analysis to shed light on challenges and opportunities and develop practical, public/private solutions to improve the quality of life in New York City, one neighborhood at a time.
